Home Lighting Tips

The correct lighting in your home can not only enhance your décor but also prevent accidents and eyestrain. Foyers and stairways that are too dark not only scare the kids but may cause you to fall or trip. Main lights should be at the head of stairs rather than the bottom. This will light up each step and the riser, instead of throwing them into shadow.

Lots of time is spent in the kitchen, so good lighting there is essential or you won’t be able to see if you’re burning those steaks. Small fluorescent lights under overhead cupboards will help take out the shadows. Low-level lighting in the nursery will help you to navigate through there during those wee hours when feeding or toileting is needed. Bathroom lighting needs to be adequate enough to put on make-up without blinding you of a night. Recessed downlights are the in thing, but they need dimmer switches. Harsh light between viewers and television will cause eyestrain. Wall or table lamps will create a softer light for the evening’s TV viewing. Spot lamps may be needed for those who want to read or do homework. Bedroom lights need a dimmer switch so that you can set a romantic mood in the evening.
