Home Lighting Do?s and Don?ts

If you have ever walked into someone else’s house and felt completely in awe of their home and its atmosphere then you have probably wondered how you can go about having that same feeling about your own home. It is not about how much money you spend on your home or how expensive the wall paper is. Generally speaking it is usually how well a person uses what they have. They look at the space and the character of the house and choose appropriate lighting to make the house look and feel bigger and airier than it actually is. How do they do it? Here are some tips of do’s and don’ts regarding the lighting in your home, by following these rules you can make your home into a place that other people are in awe of.

Home Lighting Do’s:
Home Lighting Size – Do look at the size of your rooms and choose home lighting fixtures that are in proportion to their size. If the room is small, choose a small lighting fixture; if the room is medium in size choose a light that is medium in size and so on.

Ceiling Lighting – Do take note of how high or low your ceilings are. Flush ceiling lighting or spot lighting is perfect for low ceilings, whereas a hanging lighting will suit high ceilings.

Home Lighting Don’ts:

Overcrowding – Don’t go overboard with the home lighting, yes you want to create as much light as possible but you can have too much for one room. For example having spot lights, a pendant ceiling light, wall lights, 3 or 4 lamps and cabinet lights may be a little too much for one room.

Home Lighting Mix and Match – Don’t mix and match your home lighting too much, try and carry on the same theme throughout the room and the house. If your home is modern choose contemporary lighting, if it is a traditional cottage choose time honored lighting, it’ll create a sense of flow throughout your home.
