Ft. Morgan Peninsula

A large portion of the Fort Morgan Peninsula, which begins at Gulf Shores, AL, on the east is in the Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge. The extreme western end is in the Fort Morgan Historical Park, where a ferry operates between the peninsula and Dauphin Island to the west.

The Bon Secour NWR contains 7,000 acres of wildlife habitat for migratory birds, nesting sea turtles and the endangered Alabama beach mouse. The name Bon Secour comes from the French meaning "safe harbor," very appropriate considering the sanctuary for flora and fauna that the refuge provides.
